Organised by Sarawak Cheshire Home with the cooperation of the State Welfare Department, this is the first such course to be ever organised with the main objective to motivate staff for better work performance and to equip them with the basic skills in counselling and nursing care. The speakers were Dr Shafie Lugom, Dr.Dolly Paul and Pn. Veronica Wong. The topics include: The Delight of Working, Positive Thinking, Self Development, EQ Competency, Basic Skills in Counselling and Basic Nursing Care.
The Deputy President of Sarawak Cheshire Home Dr. Lim Thian Siong represented the President Dato Sri Ang Lai Soon to officiate the closing ceremony on 9th Nov, 2014 followed by the presentation of certificates to the participants. In his speech, Dr. Lm said that a happy and friendly attitude is a vital element to rehabilitate those with special needs. This is the type of relationship that a care-giver must possess as they will have a life long relationship with the physically and mentally challenged. Dr. Lim also called upon the care-givers to be more sensitive to the plight and needs of those under their care.
On the whole, the course was a success and has to some extent achieved its objective as participants have found that the course was interesting, informative and beneficial in discharging their duties. It is hoped that more similar courses will be organised in future if funds are available.
